The Belles Letters Review
- Cosmopolitan Literary House
Letter from the Editor
There is a particular pleasure in opening a literary magazine and not knowing where the next story will take you.
One page may carry you into a familiar room; the next may open a door onto a city you have never seen, a time you have never lived through, or a life entirely unlike your own. This is what we love about fiction: its ability to make the unfamiliar intimate and the distant suddenly close.
The Belles Letters Review brings together stories from different corners of the world, but we do not believe that literature needs to explain where it comes from before it can move us. A compelling story can cross a language, a culture, a century. It can make us curious, unsettled, amused, nostalgic, or simply unable to put the page down.
In these pages, you will find writers with different voices, different imaginations and very different ways of seeing the world. Some stories may stay with you for their atmosphere; others for a character, a sentence, an unexpected turn. Some may take you somewhere entirely new.
We invite you to read without knowing what awaits you on the next page.
Welcome to The Belles Letters Review.
